Quickie: Authors Guild, Inc. v. HathiTrust

In Authors Guild, Inc. v. HathiTrust, and confirmed by a similar case by the Authors Guild against Google, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that any use of digital books obtained without permission wasn't copyright infringement if used for a non-expressive use, such as archival or search functions.
Generative AI cases going through the courts, such as Kadrey v. Meta, will determine whether the same applies to AI training, and by the arguments given in HathiTrust, it should.

The Supreme Court's decision reversing the bankruptcy of the Sackler Family will just make things worse not only for overdose victims and their families, but for pain patients as well.
Once again, we have literal TORTURE of pain patients who are forced to endure inadequate doses and improperly-managed pain out of fears of addiction that 99.4% of them are NEVER in danger of.
