Three weeks ago I changed The strings on my classical guitar and decided to make a video about it.
You will find that the video is very detailed and shows you exactly what to do including how to clean and oil your fretboard which I do about once a year.
There were 59 different shots which were edited and compiled and also I put in voice overs through the whole thing.
There is good information in this video even if you don’t have a nylon string guitar.
Going forward as I change strings on my other guitars I will make detailed videos about those types of guitars and strings too.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks for your support!

A while ago some of my students and supporters said that they would love to see some of my unedited work. This video is totally unedited. No sound editing, no chord boxes on the screen, no special editing. This video will be cut into 5 different videos. 3 performance videos and two guitar lesson teaching videos.

There are two videos put together because my camera shuts off automatically after 30 minutes.
In this video I practiced
  • Lágrima and
  • Requerdos De La Alhambra by Francisco Tárregra
  • a performance of Redemption Song
  • and No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley
  • taught Redemption Song
  • and taught No Woman No Cry

Lágrima is an attempt to come up with a better recording than I have previously had and Requerdos De La Alhambra is to show you a piece that I am working on. I’m in the very early stages of learning Requerdos.

The 2nd part of the video is how I make teaching videos. They are made in one long video and then I cut and edit them later.
Here are the time stamps for the different parts of this video if you want to skip around.
You will find these in the description of the video too so that you can navigate with one click.

0:39 Lagrima 1st performance
3:27 Lagrima 2nd performance
7:26 Requerdos De La Alhambra practice
10:47 No Woman No Cry performance
14:42 Redemption Song performance
22:26 Start of Redemption Song lesson
23:00 End of Redemption Song lesson
24:28 start of lesson - No Woman No Cry
25:09 end of video - No Woman No Cry

27:11 Redemption Song chords
28:15 No Woman No Cry chords

30:25 Redemption Song - explanation and right hand strum
39:40 No Woman No Cry - right hand strum and song explanation

48:34 Special message to supporters

Thanks for watching.

Capricho Arabe by Francisco Tárrega
A while ago I posted a recording of me playing Capricho Arabe by Francisco Tárrega over at Patreon. In this video I played along with that recording trying to match what I did. The reason I did this is because this is a very difficult piece to begin with and getting a good recording with the video camera running is not possible since I haven't played this piece at all for a couple of months. I have a student learning Capricho Arabe and he needs a recording to listen to.
You will see that this video has freeze frames throughout. It's not your computer freezing, or a problem with the upload, or with my video editor, I actually did this on purpose. My wife thinks this is weird. I thought it was cool. I'm just trying something new here. I'll make guitar lesson videos about this piece later and then you will see the intricacies of the piece if you are interested. This video is designed to have the recording out there for people to listen to, not to show them how to play the piece.
Capricho Arabe is in Drop D tuning.
I was introduced to this piece by a student when I was teaching at a drug rehab in Saint George, Utah, back in 2005. I taught there from 2000 to 2012. This particular student was a recovering addict.
He had been working on this piece and was about half way finished with it when his drug habit engulfed his life and almost killed him. I had to learn this piece to teach it to him so that he could finish it. This gave him focus and something to think about instead of the pain of getting over his drug habit.
Capricho Arabe is a level 9 piece on a scale of 1 to 10. It is not a beginner piece by any means although anyone could learn parts of it and begin their journey. I've never been able to get a student past measure 25, or about 2 minutes 15 seconds into the piece, without them having a solid foundation to work on.
This means
  • good fingerpicking technique
  • the ability to play barre chords
  • and the ability to stretch a bit with the left hand.
