Welcome to New Discourses! We like to think of this place as a home for the politically homeless, especially for those who feel like they’ve been displaced from their political homes because of the movement sometimes called “Critical Social Justice” and the myriad negative effects it has had on our political environments, both on the left and on the right.

Gender Ideology, Transgenderism, and "Doing Gender"
To view the issue optimistically, the medical front of the battle against gender ideology and transgender medicine is starting to go very well and might soon see more significant victories. The ideological and social side, including the damaging practice known as "social transition," has barely been impacted at all. To dig further into the roots of this phenomenon of "gender ideology with transgender characteristics," host James Lindsay takes the listener through a frequently overlooked landmark paper in gender studies in this episode of the New Discourses Podcast. After framing the issue in a helpful way, he reads the bulk of Candace West and Don H. Zimmerman's 1987 paper "Doing Gender" (pdf), arguably the most cited paper in gender studies, offering deep explanation. Join him to understand the thinking and history of gender ideology in a whole new way.
