JIVE TALK: DNA confirms Steppe PIE Homeland!

THIS Thursday: I shall discuss the findings of the breakthrough paper on IE origins "The Genetic Origin of the Indo-Europeans" (2024), and also a little about the other paper "A genomic history of the North Pontic Region from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age" on JIVE TALK.

David Reich walks back the PIE from South-of-the-Caucasus stuff he pushed in 2022, now working with David Anthony and nearly 300 new samples to arrive at a very different conclusion.

There IS steppe ancestry in Anatolia and this is how Indo-European languages got there. They are claiming a Caucasian migration route, but I think Balkans is more plausible.

They say PIE came from no further south than the North Caucasus, but likely further north on the steppe itself! Of course I support the steppe itself.

This is a game changer and puts the discourse back on the right track.

Indo-Anatolian? I don't think so

On Jive Talk I discuss the new genetics paper 'The genetic history of the Southern Arc: A bridge between West Asia and Europe' by Lazaridis et al which boldly endorses a controversial theory for the origin of the Indo-European languages - that they were first spoken south of the Caucasus and were brought to the Yamnaya and related peoples who then spread them, rather being autochthonous to the region.

Indo-European Cannabis documentary

My latest video looks at the role the Indo-Europeans played in the spread of the cannabis plant across Eurasia. I'm hoping this attracts a new audience who might get a taste for all things very IE! Lots about Iranic peoples in this one.

Faces of the Yamnaya film

My dear patrons I am proud to announce the new VERY INDO-EUROPEAN documentary about Yamnaya is finished. The list of sources is so long that I cannot fit it in the video description with a 5000 character limit! Therefore I have posted all that information in this blog post along with the video itself which is set to premiere in about 1/2 an hour.

I hope you all love the amazing art that all the artists contributed to make this film as good as it is. I had to keep patching the script up with new bits as more papers were published on various relevant topics like milk, horses and corded ware.

Do me a favour and share this on your social media channels. I really want it to reach the audience it deserves.

Apologies again for taking so long - there won't be such a long wait for the next one.

NEW YAMNAYA FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION: Using their skulls, the latest genetic data about their phenotype, and the latest facial reconstruction techniques, the 3D artist Robert Molyneaux was able to create realistic reconstructions of Yamnaya people for a forthcoming Survive the Jive video. We are pleased to reveal the first one in the form of this infographic which shows us what a male from Bykovo cemetery on the Volga looked like.
His features are notably robust, particularly his chin and brow but his skull is quite long, which is typical of the dolichocephalic eastern Yamnaya. We have reconstructed him with brown eyes, which is statistically likely for his people, although we don’t have his personal DNA to check what colour hair he specifically had. His skin tone is at the darker end of the European spectrum and was based on that of modern Georgian people from the North Caucasus who have a similar range of complexions as the Yamnaya.
You can see more of him and learn all about the Yamnaya when the STJ documentary is finished later this summer! In the meantime, please share this infographic all around.
