Plans for the rest of 2021

Okay, so, after much consideration, I wanted to let people know what my plans are for this page for the rest of the year regarding my on-going projects etc.
My jewellery work:
I have canceled my last show for the year and will resume them next summer/spring. My online store is currently closed, but I will reopen it when I feel I have the strength to get back upstairs (where my bedroom/workroom is) as I'm just not up to it physically yet. New projects are also largely on hold (can't play with fire while still hooked up to oxygen!). Once my shop reopens, I will be reopen for limited custom orders.
My writing:
I still have two more months of chapter drafts for From the Ashes and will continue to post them on their normal third week of the month schedule. However, I will not be working on any new chapter drafts, book resurrection progress, etc. until the new year. I just don't think I'll be able to focus well on writing until we are past the upcoming holidays (and my sister's birthday which is in November) which will be difficult this year without my sister. Should I find I can, I will, but between my physical healing (I am still so tired!) and the emotional healing, I just don't see myself being able to write well until then.
My artwork:
Of all of my projects, this is the one I see being able to work on sooner than anything else. I can't give any idea yet on when new artwork will be available, just that I do see myself being able to paint much sooner than write or create jewellery. I don't know, perhaps it's because artwork is often so connected with emotion and, right now, emotion is something I am overflowing with. So, if I post anything more this year, expect it to be digital paintings.
Other stuff:
As the page is going to be largely silent until the new year, I won't be doing my weekly updates or posts about my monthly plans until the new year unless I actually have something to share.
Thank you all so much for your support and understanding during this time!

Plans for October

Welcome to October everyone! It's a new month with some new (and some old) plans!
I don't really have any jewellery plans this month so I've excluded it from the list of this month's plans. However, if I have time, I may still do some jewellery work as there are a few things I'd like to do and, Lord willing, I will have an art show coming up in November to get ready for.
Art Goals:
  • Make some more progress on the creature concept paint, preferably finishing the rough paint of the scales.
  • Finish the new painting I started last week.
  • Release the new painting as a 4k and 8k wallpaper (subscriber-only)
  • Release a new texture/reference image pack
  • Work on the second character portrait
  • Experiment with Blender
  • Possibly work on an accompanying art piece for a previous SFF's September's 75 Word Writing Challenge.

Writing Goals:
  • Release chapter (draft) 8 of An Inkling of Magic. (Coming on Monday!)
  • Write November's chapter draft of An Inkling of Magic.
  • Add at least 8-10k words to resurrecting book 2 of The Gemquist Chronicles (total word count is now almost 47K after writing another 1,500+ words yesterday).
  • Release chapter (draft) 5 of From the Ashes.
  • Finish writing chapter 9 of From the Ashes.
  • Possibly enter SFF's October's 75 Word Writing Challenge.
As usually, plans may have to be adjusted, or new ones may come in, as the month goes on, but these are my current project goals for October.
I'd also like to thank everyone that's voted so far in my poll from yesterday! Based on your current feedback, I'm going to continue with the current posting schedule for chapter drafts but might, every now and then, decide to surprise you with a bonus chapter. Also, I've not forgotten about my earlier poll regarding everyone's favorite fairy tale, and am contemplating ideas for a new artwork and/or jewellery piece based on the current poll results!

Weekly Update: #27

Happy Friday (or whatever day it is for those in another time zone)!
Since last week's update, I am please to announce that the book resurrection project is now 1,594 words closer to completion than it was before. Still loads more to write, but that's my primary project for next week so, hopefully, next Friday I will be able to report a great deal more success in the rewrite. The current total word count stands at almost 41.5k. Lord willing and with the help of copious amounts of tea, that word count will be much higher by the end of next week. I already have next month's chapter installments for both An Inkling of Magic and From the Ashes ready to go, so that gives me basically the whole week to just work on reclaiming what was lost.
Other writing news, if you haven't read it yet, September's chapter (draft) of An Inkling of Magic switched to public yesterday on Patreon (and, if you have, I hope you enjoyed it!)! Additionally, chapter four of From the Ashes (a high fantasy, fairy tale retelling) posted on Monday.
Okay, so, this week, I've largely be focused on my digital art. And, I'm very happy to announce, I've finished one of my paintings! Alas, not the creature paint (still way to many scales to paint before I'm able to make that announcement), but another painting I've had in the works, but had to set aside during show season. I'll be sharing it (and a new seed story) with subscribers on Monday before it goes public later in the week. New patron-only merch for it though is already available on my author website! Prints and public merch will be coming next week on Red Bubble and Art Station.
And I've already started a new painting! Yes, I know, I still have the creature paint to finish and the second character portrait from AIoM to do, but I've had an idea for a painting for the last week or so that's been screaming at me and it's only been getting more insistent the longer I put it off. When ideas are that loud in my head, I find it's generally a good idea to listen to them. So, I started working on it after I finished the other one and already have a pretty good rough paint done blocking out pretty much all of the main compositional features of the piece and have already begun work on fleshing it out. Sneak peek screenshots coming soon! Also, it's being made to fit 8k resolution so, if I'm happy with the results, I'll be making it available to subscribers as a wallpaper.
Although I haven't started it yet, I have been doing some preliminary thinking on how I want to to the second character portrait, but will likely save actually painting it until October. However, I do plan on compiling my reference images for it this month so that I'm ready to go with it.
I think that about wraps up this week's update! It's been a fairly product week and I'm hopeful that that continues as I've a whole of work to still do!
Thanks for reading and for your support!

Weekly Update: #26

Morning all! Hope everyone's doing well!
Made a little more progress on the creature paint on Monday! I've almost finished the rough paint of the scales on the tail and then I can move on to another area to rough in. I will be very, very happy to move on to another area! These scales have been tormenting me for months which is why I had to set the project aside for a while so that I didn't accidentally ruin it because of frustration.
Other than doing some more work on the painting, the rest of this week has been spent writing. I added 2,240 more words to An Inkling of Magic I'm very pleased (and relieved) to report that I've finished writing October's chapter draft!
Also, coming next week, is the next chapter draft of From the Ashes. I have seven and a partial chapters finished for this one so far; so, that gives me a good bit of breathing space before I have to stock-pile more chapters for releasing them here.
That means it's now full-speed ahead on the book resurrection project! I still have a lot of ground to make up on this one, but I'm determined to do it.
Well, that's about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading and for your support!

Weekly Update: #25

Hi, all! Welcome back for another weekly update!
No writing progress so far this week as I've mostly been working on one of my digital paintings.
On that front, I'm back to working on the creature painting and, by working, I mean staring endlessly at reference photos and then back at my painting to try and figure out how to paint what I'm needing to paint. I did, eventually, manage to put drawing pen to tablet and start painting, but not before I wasted hours by trying to redo something that didn't actually need to be redone, they just needed me to refine them more. If anyone tries to tell you that scales are easy to paint, laugh at them! They look a lot simpler than they actually are. I'm starting to lose count of the number of times I've restarted the scales on this creature because something of other didn't look right. The first time, they weren't uniform enough and they didn't contour properly to the creatures body. So, after taking a sanity break, I did some research on advice for painting scales so that I didn't make that same mistake again. They still didn't look quite right, but, now, after looking at a whole host of reference images of different scale types, I think I know better of what I need to do to fix that. First though, I need to get the scales all roughed in and then I'll be able to shade and detail better to give them dimension. I have the tendency to want to jump ahead too quickly to the rendering stage and want to skip all the rough paint stages. I'm working on that though and I am making progress.
Speaking of progress, I did eventually end up getting some actual work done of the painting besides staring endlessly at references. In fact, I made more progress than what my current file shows, the reason being, my program shut down suddenly when it encountered a slight glitch and I'd not saved the newest changes yet. Yes, yes, I know. A silly mistake to make, but I was trying to finish roughing in this one section and planning to save afterwards. Only the glitch occurred before I got to that point and I had to start over. However, that at least means I've sorted out some of my problems so I know how to paint that area.
Once I get past all these scales, I'm fairly hopeful that the rest of the painting won't take as long to finish. I do still have another part of the creature that I'm redesigning, well, not so much redesigning as repositioning, so that might take a little bit to problem solve. However, once it's been repositioned, the actual rendering should be a lot more straightforward than with scales.
New work-in-progress screenshots coming soon for patrons!
I did try to work on my writing on Wednesday, but, unfortunately, it was one of those days where the mind just refused to cooperate with my plans. Sometimes, you just can't push through brain fog.
Well, that's all for this week! Thanks for reading!

Weekly Update: #24

Happy Friday (or whatever day it is for you depending on your time zone)!  Hope your week's been going well, mine has been busy with writing, writing, writing.
Between last week and early this week, I had written a bit over 1,500 words for chapter 8 of An Inkling of Magic, however, Wednesday came, and I was about to start a new scene in that chapter, but, upon rereading, the ending of the previous scene read more like a chapter ending than just a scene break. So, I decided to erase the chapter heading and add it onto chapter 7 and start over for chapter 8. It's set me back a little in getting October's chapter finished, but I have plenty of time yet for that and, this way, I think I chapters will flow better. I've already written another 980 words on the new chapter since rearranging things.
Speaking of chapter 7, it released today (yesterday on Patreon, but I didn't have time to get it up here until today)! It'll switch to public on Patreon on September 23. However, if you don't want to wait that long, you can always choose any supper tier on either Subscribe Star, Patreon, or Buy Me a Coffee (or make a custom pledge on Patreon) and get to read the chapter drafts as soon as they're released. On occasion, I will also be sharing research notes from my various story projects which will be posted as patron/subscriber-only bonus content.
With the shows over for the summer, I've finally been able to get back to the book resurrection project! So far this week, I've added another 407 words to book two of The Gemquist Chronicles and I'm hoping/planning to add a bunch more.  One of my goals for this month is to write at have added at least another 8k words to the book by the end of the month, preferably more. At the time of the laptop malfunction, I'd been regularly writing about 10k words a week so this should be a very achievable goal if I don't run into any writer's block issues (sometimes, a scene or scene transition just likes to give trouble when it comes to wording it right).
This week was mostly focused on writing, so I haven't done any digital art this week, but next week I plan to pick one of my in-progress paintings to work on and see if I can't get one of them finished soon as I have many more waiting in the wings to get started.
The last of the new stones I ordered has arrived!! I won't be using them quite yet as the jewellery is on hiatus, but I'll be taking a picture of the new stones and sharing that with you sometime next week.  Some of these stones I'm particularly excited about as, besides being gorgeous, they were rather dear to get and I've been eyeing them for a long time. I'm still waiting on an order of some sterling silver lever-back earring findings to arrive (it's a couple weeks late) so I can do some earring restocking later this winter, but that's going to be some time yet before they get here as the company has to send out a replacement order because the first package has been lost and is listed as having 'visible damage.' Praying there won't be any issues with the new package as this particular style of lever-back is hard to come by as my regular supplier has discontinued them.
That's about it for this week, so, back to writing for me, and thanks for reading!

Goals

$0.00 of $250
per month
Working as an artist and author is not easy. There are always supplies that need replenishing, new tools to get, tech that goes out of date as soon as you take it out of the box or breaks on you when you can least afford it, and all manner of publishing fees no matter how much you try to do yourself. On top of covering all of this, you also have to find some way to pay your bills and put food on the table. This is the minimum monthly income I need to stop stressing about my bills and the inconsistency of art/book sales and be able to focus more on my art and writing and less on getting 'seen'.
$0.00 of $750
per month
I love what I do and wouldn't want to be doing anything else! Reaching this goal would mean I have successfully achieved the minimum income I need to make a part-time living as an artist/author which will go a long ways to helping me continue to bring you more art and stories. It would also help me to start a fund for replacing worn out/outdated tech so that I can keep creating.
$0.00 of $1,500
per month
Reaching this goal would be truly amazing as this will have meant that I have now reached the minimum income goal I need to be a full-time artist/author! It would also allow me more freedom for trying new things and test out new ideas with you. I would also be able to spend more time creating resources to help others with their art.
$0.00 of $3,000
per month
This goal would be a truly awesome milestone! It would allow me to invest in new materials or software to keep up in an ever advancing and competitive field and be able to attend workshops/seminars to upgrade my skills. All of which means that I can continue to grow as an artist and share that journey with you.
