Madman Across The Water - Elton John
Last Saturday during my live stream a lady named Diana asked about how to transpose Madman Across The Water by Elton John. It has been quite a while since I listened to that song.
I pulled up a tab from Ultimate Guitar, compared a live recording from 1971 of Elton playing on BBC television, and found BIG discrepancies between the tab and the actual song.
This video is an analysis of a small piece of the song and my interpretation of how it could be played with a guitar in standard tuning.
In that live version Elton improvises a lot. He is accompanied by drummer Nigel Olsson and bass player Dee Murray as a trio. That recording was done before guitarist Davey Johnstone arrived on the scene.
Elton John's music has a lot of space in it. It slows down and has interesting contrasts. You don't hear that in pop music today. It usually slaps you across the face and gives you no time to breathe. Also complex harmonies are not mainstream right now. That's OK we don't mind, do we?
If you want to see that version just search Elton John Madman Across The Water and it's the second video to appear in the search usually.

See you soon.
