I've been having a lot of fun with reels on Instagram! Most recently they feature my miniature art (see previous post for more mini art) on Ampersand Claybord Art Tiles. Here's a reel I posted the other day, showing the many markers & pens I used on a tiny 1" square tile.

The majority of the pens used for the tiny bunny are Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens (the colorful ones), but I also used Micron pens in black & 2 shades of gray, and a Stabilo 88 pen. The knife was used for scratching detail and blending colors. It's an X-acto #16 blade.

Earlier this month, I put a collection of my very small works in the Burnett Way Mini Gallery, a truly mini gallery in Sacramento CA. I won't repost all the details here, since there's a blog post on my web site that you can read. Suffice to say, I think the show looks really cute and the mini gallery is a fun and creative idea!

Short video of scratching in the highlights on a dog's eyes. I've recorded more video of process on this portrait of Pinky, including adding the first layer of watercolor. I'll add narration to that & offer it to subscribers.

I’m happy to announce that “Heart of San Pedro” (Western Screech Owl) has been accepted in the Society of Animal Artists‘ “Animal Impressions” Exhibition at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The show runs August 21 – November 7, 2021.

This drawing is an 8″ x 8″ scratchboard, with watercolor. I took the reference photo at the San Pedro River Preserve in Arizona a number of years ago, so it’s fitting that the drawing will debut in AZ. 

I have a number of scans of this drawing in progress, but I still need to run a couple of them through Photoshop to clean up. Then I'll create a short video of the stages. I also have video of real-time drawing on this piece. I'll share that content to the $3 subscriber tier. I previously posted a short video and a couple of images of this drawing in progress, so please scroll back to see them.

I have a number of things in progress, read more on my blog: Pivoting

Some are new things & ideas for marketing, along with the "old" but very important things like pet portraits. This is my current portrait project, Pinky the Keeshond-Pit Bull mix. It's a 5" x 5" scratchboard.
