Hotel California - Don Felder's first lead revamped tabs
Hello everyone,
A couple of weeks ago Tom Davis on our weekly hangout asked if I could teach Don Felder's first lead with all the bends like Don Felder plays it.
In July 2019 I published the video that is linked below of Don's lead that leaves out some of the harder bends.
Attached to this post is a new corrected copy of my earlier tab, and the tab the way Don plays his lead on the original recording.
New Video News
The new video is still in process. I just found a small section that needs to be re-shot so it's going to be a few more days until I get that finished.
I'll put both of these new tabs in the January version of my book coming soon.
Stay warm this winter!

This is a clip of me playing Don Felder's first lead from Hotel California with tablature on the screen. You will get this tab in the February edition of my book coming next week.
This is a short video but not a "Short". The backing track is made with a looper. The lead is played slowly and is not an exact transcription of the original or of the live version that Don Felder played in the live concert from 1971.
It is a little simpler but still has many of the elements of the original. I'm tempted to tweak this tab and do an exact transcription of both leads. :)
This will get you started and you can make the necessary tweaks to get closer to the original as you progress, or you can put your own twist on this lead and make it your own.

Hotel California live Performance Review
One of my students had questions about how to play Hotel California that I thought would be best to answer in a video.
This video has taken me hours and hours to finish. When I first put it up on YouTube it was blocked in all countries because I had used too much original footage from an Eagles video.
The second time I uploaded it, same.
Here is an edited version that has small snippets of the original video but not enough for YouTube to detect it and ban the video.

Hope you like this. Let me know what you think please.
Thanks,
Hal

This next video is a comparison between Alip Ba Ta and the Eagles' performance of Hotel California.

I have some trepidation about releasing this one because I put in clips of the 1994 Eagles live concert, and Don Henley and the Eagles have been blockers in the past. We'll see how long it survives as is.

This video is inspired by the chord progression found in the verse of Hotel California. It starts out in the key of Em.
So, it starts out in Em, then goes to D major, and then to C major, and then pivots back to Em. It does this over and over.
How does one work with that in an improvisation?
Here are some ideas to start with.
