The uMkhosi kaNomkhubulwane (Nomkhubulwane Festival) is a deeply spiritual Zulu agricultural and fertility festival held to honor uNomkhubulwane, the revered Zulu goddess of rain, nature, harvest, and fertility. Known as the "Princess of Heaven" or Mother Earth, she is one of the few prominent female deities in traditional African cosmology.
While the festival faded for nearly two centuries due to Western and missionary influences, it was passionately revived in the mid-1990s by cultural activists like Patience Gugu Ngobese. Today, it functions as a profound gathering where women pray for rain, agricultural abundance, protection against diseases, and social healing.
