PODCAST #002 - STANLEY KUBRICK 2
Filmmaker Stanley Kubrick died on March 7, 1999, under very mysterious circumstances. His wife, unlike his daughter, believes foul play was likely. Kubrick is one of the more talented directors of all time and my personal favorite. Many will also agree that he is one of the most mysterious. His films were widely received and known for their innovative cinematography, creativity, and ingenuity.
The subjects of his films were diverse and infused with hidden messages directed to his audiences for informational edifications. But as time went on, the gaps between each film grew longer, as the meticulous Kubrick began to obsess over every detail. Each film became the culmination of years of preparation, the ostensible story and plots becoming secondary to Kubrick’s more esoteric concerns. Perhaps more than any other filmmaker, Kubrick’s work is analyzed for its hidden meanings.
Kubrick exposed in Eyes Wide Shut how elite secret societies bonded by pedophilia and murder rule the world. He showed the film privately to executives and his star actors, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman – Six days later, he was dead. Before the premiere, 20 minutes of the film were edited out. Kidman already knew about these things, as her father fled Australia after being accused of pedophilia by Fiona Barnett.
ON THIS DELIVERY, we dissect his last films: Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut. Was Kubrick silenced over what he meant to expose during his last cinematographic project?
