He only mentions children in a comment about people staying together for the children, and he defines that as a failed marriage. Responsibility for children is the whole purpose for marriage.
Of course, we could just make this the last generation, but that's not a satisfactory answer on several levels.
He didn't define those marriages as failed, he just pointed out that those people are miserable. And they are. But don't worry about this being the last generation. It's obvious that nobody needs a legal marriage to breed.
Q: Is marriage tougher on men or women?
A: Both (then proceeds to explain how it isn't tough on women at all, unless they are so obnoxious that they cannot find another idiot to take them on after divorce.) I know, I know: he has a living to protect and some of his clients are women so he cannot trivialise their 'suffering'.
