A Bit of History... My First Conversion – Age 15

A long time ago...in a galaxy far, far away...I was 15 years old. Haha

When I first got into the hobby, I was really into Terminators. My local hobby stores seemed to struggle to keep these in stock. Chaos terminators were especially hard to get a hold of. In retrospect, going to a creepy old guy's house to buy a single chaos terminator was probably not a good idea. Keep in mind, the internet wasn't really a thing though either, so at the time it didn't seem as weird then as it would now.

In any event, shortly after getting this model, I also learned about green stuff. Back then, you could just go to a hardware store and it was in the plumber's aisle. But I digress, the only resources at the time I (well most of us) had access to for the hobby was White Dwarf and related publications. The tutorials for green stuff and scratch building weren't nearly as detailed as they are now, but they were good enough to provide the general idea. With that all in mind, I thought I would try and convert my (then new) Chaos terminator.

Something else I should note, this was probably the 5th or 6th model I had ever painted too. At this time, I wasn't really sure how to do bases. The first few models I painted had really awful model grass and gravel/pebble materials that I thought distracted from the painted model. Therefore, this one was simply painted black. The core of this conversion (not kit bash, that term didn't exist then haha) was primarily a chaos terminator body and a plastic head from the original Mk-6 Space Marines plastic model box set.  The conversion portion was all made with green stuff, florist wire, tooth picks, and gravel for the wing texture.

At the time, I was happy with the overall conversion, but not super excited about the wings. At the very least, we all have to start somewhere and each time you try to push yourself, your skills, whatever, out of your comfort zone – you will hopefully learn something that can be used to improve yourself the next time you work on a new project.

That's it for now. Thanks again for your support and I look forward to engaging with you all more soon!

Cheers!
