"So What's the Deal with Patreon?"

We get a lot of questions about why we can't post about gun giveaways or discount codes on Patreon from people who are unaware of their policies. TFBTV is still active on Patreon and dependent on Patreon support, so we are cautious to not violate Patreon guidelines or to be openly critical of Patreon. However, this video by Jon Patton of TGC explains why creators in this industry don't get to post certain content here, and why we have been looking to other platforms for viewer support.

We had the exact same experience that TGC did in this video and we can vouch for the truth of the content in this TGC piece. While TGC decided to up and leave Patreon, TFB decided to comply with guidelines while opening other viewer support options that have less restrictive policies, like subscribestar.com/tfbtv

We figured this post would be the best way of explaining to everyone what "the deal with Patreon" is rather than individually responding to all of the emails.

Whether it's Patreon or not, we are incredibly thankful for your support. TFBTV can offer you completely unbiased, independent content only because of you. We don't have to shill for companies (James just shills for Glock for free...) or "shadow review" products that we receive without disclosing that we were paid for the review or that the product is from a sponsor. You'd be shocked with how common those practices are in this business.

And yes, your rewards will track if you change platforms. We keep records. Just keep a personal record for your information, and we can go back and verify when you email [email protected] after you hit a reward tier.

Finally, we are considering adding a $25 tier on Patreon and SubscribeStar because some of you have asked for a higher tier with additional personal rewards. What kind of rewards would you want to see at this tier? Monthly voicechat with James, DMs, Q&A sessions, exclusive videos - what would you want for a $25/mo. tier to be worth it to you? (No requests for skin-on-skin contact, DNA samples, or photographs that could constitute felonies in some southern U.S. states please).

No matter what, thank you. For some of you, Patreon is just easier to do, and that's fine. As a site, it also has the best back-end and technical features for creators. We have a relationship of mutual tolerance with the platform, and while the bulk of our patronage is coming from this site, we are dependent upon it if we want to maintain independent reviews and coverage.
