Attached here is an estimate for Hard and Soft cover books from a local printing shop.  At this price we can really see why Amazon has such a stranglehold on the self publishing market.  Were I to possess some antique wooden bindery equipment I could reduce costs substantially by hand making my hard covers myself, also perhaps a sewing machine would work wonders as well.  I'll post some images of the hand made 'White Science' first editions as well for a visual aid.  There is likely a discount at a larger print quantity but for now, this number, though large, seems realistic at present to put money towards local industry.  What are some of your solutions for taking care of your locality's financial hurdles?  I'd like to hear from you!  I may in the future try a crowd fund to make this happen as I really enjoy just plain giving copies away for free, though the financial pinch is quite real, as you can see!
