"One generation from now.. our civilization is in chaos because our world is dying"...

I just finished watching Children of Men for the first time and I would argue that it is more culturally impacting now than it ever could have been since it's release in 2006.

It showcases a dystopian future set in 2027 where no one is able to have children 18 years after a global pandemic and our world succumbs into violence and terror.

I have never seen something with such brilliant camera direction consistently throughout the entirety of the film. The long, suspenseful one-shot takes were masterfully constructed and it was intense the entire time.

The setting felt familiar and encapsulating because of how much I enjoyed playing The Last Of Us.
If you know the game, you will notice there's a similar premise of taking the perspective of one brave male lead escorting a young woman who is the last hope of humanity because she's the only person with the ability to have a baby.

It really puts so much into perspective and I would recommend watching it if you have not already up to this point.

It debuted back in 2006, but the subtext and themes are extremely relevant today.

It takes a lot to have me so emotionally invested in media. Bravo.
