Freedom of Expression Under Attack in Canadian University 🎓

Universities are using security fees to censor speech on their campuses. Armin Navabi has been re-invited by the University of British Columbia’s Students for Freedom of Expression (UBC SFE) club to give a talk on the Israel-Palestine debate. The university finds Armin too controversial. So they are charging 400$ for security fees, plus more at their discretion. The university has used this method before in an attempt to have an event cancelled. This violates UBC’s 1976 Senate statement which is meant to prevent any from of obstruction of speech by the university. UBC SFE is a small student group, with very little funding. The student club is now trying to fight back legally and set a precedent for all universities in Canada.Â
