THE LIZARD KING 1: JIM MORRISON'S LEFT-HANDED PATH

The lead singer for the rock group the Doors personified the mind-bending, uninhibited lifestyle of the 1960s, in his brief but brilliant career. Like few bands other than the Beatles, the influence of the Doors has eclipsed the generation that first carried it to fame. Jim Morrison himself believed he was a sort of a shaman and that spirits used him for his music. A lesser-known fact is that Jim Morrison’s father, Captain George Morrison, commanded the Carrier Division during the Gulf of Tonkin Incident.
A Faustian Bargain is a deal with the devil, a pact with Satan, an agreement that allows you to have anything you've ever wanted. And in exchange for extreme wealth or power, all you have to do is hand your soul over to the devil for eternity. Some may be a little quick to dismiss Morrison's lyrics as the ramblings of a madman but there's a very strong possibility he was manufactured via MK Ultra into serving the social engineering programs the C.I.A. had at the time. Morrison's alter egos made multiple appearances in public: The Lizard King, Jimbo, Mr. Mojo Rising and Rush being the most notorious ones.

I saw the Doors play at the Magic Mtn Music Festival in Marin after getting out of high school in 6'67 and I'd heard their LP when it came out but just wasn't a fan. He was out of it then and his self-absorbed, melodramatic front man antics were an indulgent bore. Too many pretentious, incoherent lyrics that parody the fading Beat culture don't help either. There was alot better music crested by teenage bands as well as a some older folks like the Seeds, Leaves, Byrds, and Moby Grape, along with earlier exponents of Merseybeat/British Invasion and other idiomatic genres. 1963 was mostly early soul and Motown. '64 was Brit Invasion. '65 was folk rock.'66-7 was garage rock and early psychedelic outings (mostly on rare 45's and select LP's). After that came a dubious grab bag of industry-driven dreck and happenstance . To me it's all about the songs and the body of recorded works left behind for the ages...🎸🎶🎹...not my cup of tea but excellent production, as usual
love your comments man, always nice to hear the perspective of someone who was actually there...!
