PODCAST #014 - SCOTT WEILAND 2

Scott Richard Weiland (October 27, 1967 – December 3, 2015) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. During a career spanning three decades, Weiland was best known as the lead singer of the band Stone Temple Pilots. The band was initially dissed as Pearl Jam wannabes, but record after record they proved the critics wrong. He was also the lead vocalist of the supergroup Velvet Revolver, formed with mostly former Guns N’ Roses musicians.

Weiland also established himself as a solo artist, releasing three studio albums and two cover albums. Derided by critics early in his career, Weiland was known for his flamboyantly chaotic onstage persona. His constant appearance and vocal style changes and the use of a megaphone in concerts were a trademark. His battles with substance abuse were a constant source of controversy and conflict with his bandmates and family.

Now widely viewed as a talented and versatile vocalist, he is no doubt one of the best rock frontmen in history. In 2012, Weiland formed the backing band The Wildabouts. The band received mixed reviews, and some critics and fans noted Weiland's failing health. In December 2015, Weiland died of an accidental drug overdose on his tour bus in Minnesota at the age of 48. I remember that day like it was yesterday.
