July 10, 2020 Update: This week I went on an expedition to North Fork Lake and completed the rough draft of my account of the expedition.  I also finished editing the videos I made about eating lambs quarter and wild mustard, as well as my paraphrase of the 37th psalm.  Then I started on a project to make some more steel targets.  A few years ago, I was obliged to replace the rear suspension on my Ford Ranger, which consists of a pair of leaf-spring assemblies.  The individual leaves of the springs are about 3/8" thick and a little under 3 inches wide.  They have been sitting in my salvage pile for a while, but this week I measured the hardness of one of the leaves and found it to be about 500 BHN, which is almost identical to AR500 steel.  That gave me the idea to try making targets out of them.  I made one sample target and tried shooting it with a variety of calibers up to 223.  Overall, it performed almost as well as AR500 would have.  Thus, it looks like junkyard leaf springs may be a viable low-cost alternative to AR500 plates for general purpose steel targets.  I filmed the testing, although I haven't edited the video yet.  Anyway, this weekend I plan to upload a video I made about the 350 Legend.
